Product Description
This includes a set of two red and yellow 18-inch square semaphore flags with sleeves and mounted on 30-inch wooden sticks.
Boat flags or signal flags have been used since Roman times. Originally, they were used to send messages to both ships or to people on land concerning the vessel at sea. This is called Flag semaphore, which is a system of flags, circular paddles or even hand signals. The semaphore system differs from the international code system. The Semaphore system uses 2 square flags that look identical, one held in the right hand and one in the left. The square flags which are red and yellow are divided on a diagonal. The hoist edge is red and the fly end is yellow. This system uses two flags held in various positions resembling the face of a clock.
The signalman holds one pole in each hand, and extends each arm in one of eight possible directions. Except for in the rest position, the flags do not overlap. The flags are colored differently based on whether the signals are sent by sea or by land. At sea, the flags are colored red and yellow (the Oscar flag), while on land, they are white and blue (the Papa flag).
This long-lasting nautical flag is made from nylon fabric with double-stitched seams, and canvas pole sleeve.
