On the State Seal of Kentucky, reproduced on the flag, two men are shown shaking hands to illustrate the motto, "United we stand, divided we fall." The wreath of the State's flower, the goldenrod, makes a semi-circle below the seal. Above the wreath is "Commonwealth of Kentucky."
