Flags Made In China Now Banned in U.S. Military

There is a good chance that many of the U.S. flags carried by both U.S. citizens and military personnel in parades and other events are not made in the U.S. Many of them, in fact, are made in China. This irony has sparked a congressman, Mike Thompson of North Bay to write new legislation that U.S. flags purchased by the Department of Labor be 100 percent “Made in America.”

Currently, because of this new legislation, all of the Defense Department’s flags have to be made in the United States. However, this is not the case with all government flags.Legislation to require all U.S. government flags to be “Made in America” has failed in the past. One reason is cost.Flags made in China cost significantly less than those made in America. The new requirements do not require just flags, but also other items of the Defense Department to be produced in the United States, such as food, clothing, fabrics, stainless steel, and hand or measuring tools to be made in the U.S. as well.

Thompson says he is proud to pass such legislation so that U.S. soldiers do not have to fight under an American flag that is made overseas and so American tax dollars do not have to be spent on these flags made overseas.
